Just aquired an unfinished Striplin Lone Ranger with major wing damage and need some advice on repairing the foam ribs. Also is this a safe aircraft by design? Has any one had any exprence with one? Also wondering about what to use to cover the wings. Full of questions.

Hi Alan, Just found your message on the net. I owned a loneranger a few years ago. Sold it to a person who lives in Langley, BC.Canada. He crashed it after successfully flying circuits but then stalling it during take off. He tried to return to the runway(classic pilot error)and crashed it just short of the runway. However the wings were intact and not sure what he did with the plane? I had purchased the plane completed. I did however upgrade a few things when putting it on wheels. You can see photos of it on the net at www.ultralightnews.com I have all the contruction info and builders manual and video of the flight tests. I have also spoke to Mr. Ken Striplin, designer and engineer which owned Striplin Aircraft. They actually built over 243 kits consisting of 100 Skyranger(two seat models) and 143 Loneranger. I am looking to purchase a two seat Skyranger. If I'm not successful then I could get the moulds and build the kit. It would be easier to find a kit partially built. THe wing damage your airplane has sustained is hard to repair. Better to build new wings or find some ready to go. You could search out the net to see if anyone is selling another loneranger kit. Remember also the fuel lines run through the wings. Usually wing tip fuel tanks were also detachable and incorporated into the design. Striplin used the sandwich foam concept to achieve strength and superior characteristics. The wing is constructed in a top and bottom. I feel it is unsafe to repair the damage you have. Better to find another wing. Alan Christensen

Hello! I too have just purchased an unbuilt Lone ranger!I see you have a construction manual.Mine is incomplete- seems to stop at the pod uprights.Is there any way to get a copy? My kit was originally purchased in '80 but I seem to have a newer 'glass wing and the one peice elevator. The problem I have is the tail boom is the trangular design, when the sketch shows it to be a square.I'm sure I have a few more questions I could ask but think I'll wait to hear from you. Thank you for any and all help. Jim

If either of you would like to have this Lone Ranger to restore or for parts 800 bucks would buy it, The engine has only run an hour. The wing repair I did on the rt wing is solid and strong. This may fly again or not. But 800 bucks is a real deal.

This kit was sold to the original buyer in 1982. I have all the reciepts. It has a Zenoah 250 with belt drive and clutch. As for being made in halves, no, it doesnt look like it The prop is fire wood. The front tire is flat and it needs lots of finish work but its mostly all there. Give me your email addres and ill send the pics I have. Im in So Oregon by the way. Youd have to come get it.

How is your Lone Ranger project coming along?

I traded some emails with you about your project. It must have been almost a year ago now.

Hello there;

There are two nuts here that are interested in building experimental aircraft and would like more information.
I am one of those nuts and our mechanical engineer type is the other.
We wanted to build something like the Dyke Delta but ran into problems with wanting to update the design.
Also our budget has not kept up with our ambitions. ;}
A two seater Ultralight or LSA with possibilities for amphibious capability really sounds good to us.
Please educate us on the "Lone Ranger, Silver Cloud" as it looks like a neat candidate.

thanks; j.kuss

Hi Alan,
I have a Striplin Skyranger kit thats been sitting on the back burner for a few years. Some of the pages in my manual are missing and some are updates to the original design. Any information you or anyone else can supply me with would be appreciated.

Hi,
I recently purchased a Striplin Sky Ranger Silver Cloud. It needs some work. Does anyone know where I can get a windshield? Is it clasified as a ultralight? I don't see much info on these aircraft on the net.
